NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has expressed grief over loss of precious lives in the collapse of footover bridge near CSMT in Mumbai while his party spokesman demanded resignation of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in the wake of the tragedy that struck after two other similar incidents in about a year-and-half.

Rahul took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to express his sympathies to the kith and kin of those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery of the injured. He also called for all possible help for the victims and their families.

Congress media cell chairman RS Surjewala reminded of last year’s Andheri Bridge collapse and September 2017 stampede at Elphistone Bridge. In a statement issued within a few hours of Thursday’s bridge collapse Surjerwala said “Modi Government and Maharashtra Government are criminally culpable for inaction leading to repeat tragedies. Goyal must resign or be sacked.”
