EC seeks report, video footage from Indore Collector;  Sushma given clean chit for wearing crown, holding trident on stage

Bhopal : Industries and Commerce minister Kailash Vijayvargiya is likely to be in trouble over his controversial remarks regarding model code of conduct.

The Election Commission is considering filing a FIR against him for violation of the poll code and has sought details from Indore district collector, said official sources.
The minister, however, has been given a clean chit in the currency note distribution case.
While attending a programme in Indore, Vijayvargiya said, “I don’t care about the model code of conduct which restricts giving small amounts to girls and does not permit participation in social, cultural and religious programmes. I kick such model code of conduct.”
The EC took cognizance of the minister’s comment following a complaint by the Congress.
Official sources said the report which the EC sought from Indore collector on the complaint, gave substantial basis to the commission to act against the minister for violation of the code.
“District collector gave details about the statement and the function where it was made. It has sufficient ground to act against the minister,” said official sources.
The commission has further asked district collector to send video footage of the statement. “The EC is serious over the gross violation of the election code and would act soon,” said the officials. The officials said that the EC could file FIR against the minister, issuing a notice for reply and disqualify him for contesting elections under the People’s Representatives Act.
However, the Indore collector’s report gave a clean chit to the minister for distributing currency note to drummers during a festival. The Congress had complained to the EC in this regard. Collector said, Vijayvargiya tipped currency notes to drummers as a tradition.
The collector said that leader of opposition, Sushma Swaraj, who had worn a crown and taken a trident in hand, did not violate election code. She was present on the stage and was offered the things. Both the reports had been sent to the EC by state election office.
