Monsoon Session of Parliament to be held July 19 to Aug 13

The Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 19, a government release said.

The four-week session will conclude on August 13, ahead of the Independence Day on August 15.

In usual course, the Monsoon Session of Parliament is held for a month between mid-July and mid-August. As per Parliamentary norms, the gap between two sessions should not exceed a period of six months.

Since the last session of Parliament, which was the Budget Session, was adjourned sine die on Mar 25, the deadline was to end by Sep 25.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had earlier asserted that he, on his part, was ready with all COVID-19 related preparations required to hold the session, and said that, "The Monsoon Session will definitely function and all preparations have been made for that".

He said that 445 Members of Parliament and Parliament secretariat staff have been inoculated, and the remaining members and the staff were also being vaccinated.
