Asked to appear before the authorities within seven days
Kolkata : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and film personality Mithun Chakraborty on Wednesday in connection with the multi crore Saradha Group scam.
According to sources in the ED Mithun Chakraborty will have to be present in ED office within seven days. Chakraborty was the brand ambassador of one of the television channels run by the group. The channel authorities had signed an agreement with Mithhun Chakraborty.
The ED would question Chakraborty regarding the money he got from the group. It was learnt that the Sardha Group had paid Rs.2 cr to Chakraborty to act as the brand ambassador of the channel. ED officials got the name of Mithun Chakraborty while they were checking some bank accounts of the group.
Apart from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the ED is also investigating some money laundering case in connection with the Saradha Group scam. ED had already arrested the second wife and son of Sudipta Sen, the Chairman of the Saradha Group.
In April last year Sudiupta Sen wrote to the CBI in which he said that two Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha members had brought Mithun Chakraborty as the brand ambassador of channel 10-a news channels owned by the group. Meanwhile the CBI officials on Wednesday interrogated Sudipta Sen about the case.
West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress once again face trouble after the ED has summoned the veteran party MP. Before Mithun Chakraborty, the name of two other party MPs were also figured in the Saradha Group scam.
The name of another Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabah member Kunal Ghosh has already entangled with Saradha Group scam. Kunal was the group CEO of Saradha Group’s media business. Kunal was later arrested by Special Investigation Team (SIT) who were investigating the case. Kunal is now under the CBI custody.
The ED had also called Arpita Ghosh, a thespian in connection with the Saradha case. Arpita Ghosh later elected from Balurghat Lok Sabha seat in Trinamool Congress ticket. Arpita Ghosh was associated with one of the television channels run by the group.
