Jaipur : Minimum educational qualification criteria should be first made mandatory for parliamentary and state polls but the Rajasthan government has implemented it at panchayat-level, state Congress chief Sachin Pilot said on Tuesday. He alleged that state Rajasthan government has implemented it at panchayat-level as it does not want women and Dalit participation.

“More than 25 legislators in the state and two MPs have not passed secondary education. But the BJP government has implemented the criteria for contesting Panchayat-level polls, which indicates that it does not want Dalits and women to participate in Panchayati Raj institutions,” Pilot said. He was speaking at an event organised by Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organisation here.

The former Union minister said the Congress will make all efforts to strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions if it comes to power in the state.
