Militants attack forces in Manipur, snatch firearms

Imphal : In an attack on security forces in Manipur, militants on Saturday attacked a small post of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Nungkao in Tamenglong district and took away nine sophisticated arms and ammunition, police said. In the attack that took place at around 12 PM, the suspected hill based militants looted four SLRs, three INSAS rifle, one AK rifle and another automatic firearm and ammunition, reports PTI.

This is the fourth attack on security forces suspected to be carried out by the militants in the last three days. Three policemen were killed and 14 others injured in different incidents after the militants ambushed state forces at Lokchao and Bongyang in Chandel district, and Noney town in Noney district on Thursday.

Of these attacks, Saturday’s is the first incident in which weapons has been carried away.

However, unconfirmed reports said altogether 20 weapons were taken by the militants.
