Srinagar: A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

NDTV and Zee News said in their reports that the pilot of the aircraft, a squadron leader, is dead. Both channels said the name of the pilot would be revealed officially after the latter’s family is informed the tragedy.

The channels sain their reports that the aircraft crashed in Bijbehara in Anantnag District.

According to reports, MiG-21 was on routine training sortie when it crashed.

According to reports, the IAF had inducted over 900 MiG-21s in its fleet over a period of 40 years, half of which have been lost in different crashes.
