Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has revealed that about five bodies, including bodies of two girls and one boy, have been recovered from river Beas after flash floods washed away 25 people in Mandi on Sunday.

People who were washed away due to the flash floods include 24 students of Hyderabad VNR Vigyan Jyoti College and one tour manager.

The flash flood on River Beas has been attributed to water release from Laarji Hydropower project.

Raman Teja, (student, Hyderabad VNR Vigyan Jyoti College), said that the team of students (65 in total) had come to the state for an industrial visit.

He said that when they waded into the river bed to click pictures there was less water there but after about 10 minutes a local man shouted to them that the flood gates were open.

He said that there he tried to get his friends out of the water but the water rose quickly. He also said that there were no search and rescue party for three hours and that the police did not respond properly.
