New Delhi : The finance ministry may see a major bureaucratic reshufflewith two key posts likely to fall vacant next month, a senior governmentofficial said.
The finance secretary’s post may fall vacant as incumbent Ashok Lavasa isthe front-runner to replace Defence Secretary G. Mohan Kumar, who willcomplete his term on May 31.
Lavasa, who is due to retire on Oct 31, will get a two-year extension ifhe moves to Defence, the official said.The government normally gives a minimum two-year term to defence and homesecretaries, irrespective of their superannuation.
Lavasa was one of the contenders for Cabinet Secretary’s post, but lost out when the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet gave a one-year extension toincumbent P.K. Sinha.
