Lucknow : The Samajwadi Party on Monday announced party nominees for 23 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh for the 2017 Assembly election. Of these, candidates have been changed in 14 constituencies while nine new names have been announced.

The most surprising name is that of Amanmani Tripathi, son of former legislator and Minister Amarmani Tripathi who is serving a life term along with his wife after being convicted of the murder of his friend Madhumita Shukla in 2003.

Amanmani has been named as Samajwadi Party candidate from Nautanwa in Maharajganj district in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Incidentally, Amanmani had unsuccessfully contested 2012 assembly election from here. Intresetingly Amanmani too is facing a CBI investigation on the charges of killing his wife Sara, a 27-year-old law graduate in 2015. He was arrested after he emerged unharmed from a serious accident that killed his wife. He had reportedly married her against his parents” wishes. Amanmani is also facing charges of kidnapping and extortion.

Tripathi senior was arrested in September 2003 in connection with the murder of Madhumita, with whom he allegedly had an affair. She was found shot dead in May 2003. Her post-mortem report stated she was pregnant and a DNA test matched it with Amarmani who was sentenced in 2007.

Among the other names announced by the party state president Shivpal Yadav were Mukesh Srivastava from Prayagpur (Bahraich), Usha Verma from Sandila (Hardoi), Mohammed Irshad from Nakud (Saharanpur), Subhash Rai from Jalalpur (Amebedkar Nagar), Sanjay Yadav from Obra (Sonebhadra), Arti Agarwal from Meerut Cantonment, Ayub Ansari from Meerut City.

The party also changed its candidates for 14 constituencies. These include Pakshalika Singh, who has replaced Vinod Kumar Sikarwar from Khairagarh, and Chandra Bhushan Singh Bundela alias Guddu Raja who replaced Jyoti Lodhi from Lalitpur, Shahnawaz Rana in place of Ilyas from Meerapur.

A surprising change is the from Sardhana in Meerut from where former state president of SP’s student wing, Atul Pradhan, has been denied a ticket and has been replaced by Pintu Rana.
