Association of Democratic Reforms published a report on the candidates standing for Lok Sabha Elections Phase II which includes a list of criminal cases, past history, assets and what not. Here is a detailed listicle of everything you need to know about the Phase II candidates of Lok Sabha Elections, 2019.

Criminal Cases:

251 candidates standing for the second phase of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections have pending criminal cases against their names as per the report. The report states that these 251 candidates sum up 16% of the total candidate count for phase II of the elections. 167 candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them and 3 of them have declared convicted cases against them.

6 candidates also fall under the category of murder cases, while 25 of them have declared that they have cases against them for attempt to murder. This is not all, 8 more candidates have cases against their names for kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom, for abducting with a secret intent and wrongfully confining the person. Candidates also have cases against their names for attempting crime towards women with intents to outrage their modesty, the count here is of 10 candidates. And there are 15 candidates who have cases against them relate to hate speech.

Speaking of the major parties, 31% of the BJP candidates, 43% of the INC candidates, 20% of the BSP candidates, 14% of the AIADMK candidates, 46% of the candidates form DMK and 36% candidates from SHS have declared criminal cases against their names. But 20% of the BJP candidates, 32% of the INC candidates, 13% of the BSP candidates, 29% of the DMK candidates and 9% of the SHS candidates have serious criminal cases against their names.

Red Alert Constituencies:

The second phase of Lok Sabha Elections has 97 constituencies out of which 41 are red alert constituencies. If you don’t know what red alert constituencies are, they are constituencies with 3 or more contesting candidates that have criminal cases against their names.

Candidates Asset Count:

27% of the candidates (423) standing for Lok Sabha Elections have assets more than 1 crore rupees.

46 out of 53 candidates from INC, 45 out of 51 candidates from BJP, 23 out of 24 candidates from DMK, 22 out of 22 candidates from AIADMK, 21 out of 80 candidates from BSP have assets more than 1 crore rupees. However, the average asset per candidate in the Phase II election is 3.90 crore rupees.

Age Groups in Phase II:

Below 25 years- One Candidate
25- 40 years old- 525 candidates (33%)
41-60 years old- 805 candidates (51%)
61- 80 years old- 246 candidates (15%)
Above 80 years old- 6 candidates
