Lok Sabha Elections 2019: BJP, Congress and other major alliances you must know about

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 20 parties this time, who have come together to fight Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The alliance is led by BJP, who is the leading party of the alliance since its formation in 1998. Below are the details of all the parties with whom BJP has come together for contesting Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

NDA alliances in major states

Uttar Pradesh (80)
In Uttar Pradesh, BJP has formed alliance with Apna Dal. Out of 80 seats, BJP will contest on 78 seats while 2 seats have been given to Apna Dal.

Maharashtra (48)
In Maharashtra, BJP has aligned with Shiv Sena for Lok Sabha polls 2019. Out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, BJP will fight on 25 seats while Shiv Sena will contest on 23 seats.

Bihar (40)
In Bihar, BJP has joined hands with JDU (Janata Dal-United) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) to contest on 40 Lok Sabha seats. BJP and JDU have got 17 seats each in the agreement while LJP has got 6 seats.

Tamil Nadu (39)
In Tamil Nadu, BJP has combined with 6 parties namely, AIADMK, PMK, DMDK, Puthiya Tamilagam, PNK, Tamil Maanila Congress. There are total 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, out of which AIADMK will fight on 20 seats, PMK on 7 seats and DMDK on 4 seats. One seat each has been given PT, PNK and TMC. BJP will fight on 5 seats.

Kerala (20)
In Kerala, BJP has come up with Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) and Kerala Congress. Out of total 20 seats, BJP is going to contest on 14 seats, BDJS on 5 and Kerala Congress on 1.

Assam (14)
In Assam, BJP ally partners Ason Gana Parishad (AGP) will fight on 3 seats while Bodoland People’s Front (BDF) will fight on 1 seat out of total 14. Rest of the 10 seats will be contested by BJP.

Jharkhand (14)
In Jharkhand, BJP is going to fight on 14 Lok Sabha seats along with All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU). BJP has 13 seats under its belt while 1 seat has been given to AJSU.

Punjab (13)
In Punjab, BJP and and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will stand together for Lok Sabha polls 2019. Out of 13 seats, SAD will contest on 10 seats while BJP will contest on 3.

Nagaland (1)
In Nagaland, BJP will support Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for Lok Sabha polls 2019. The lone Lok Sabha Seat in Nagaland has been given to NDPP.

Puducherry (1)
In Puducherry, All India N.R. Congress will be backed by BJP and fight on the lone one seat from the Union territory.

SP and BSP alliance

Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party and Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party have announced pre-poll alliance for Lok Sabha polls 2019. SP and BSP have also joined hands with RLD in Uttar Pradesh. Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, BSP will contest on 38 seats while SP will contest on 37 seats. 3 seats have been given to RLD.

In Maharashtra, BSP will going to fight on 3 seats while BSP is going to contest on 45 seats. In Madhya Pradesh, SP will contest on 3 seats out of total 29 while BSP will fight on the rest. In Uttarakhand which has 5 Lok Sabha seats, SP has got one seat while BSP will contest on the rest.

Congress alliances
Congress has also formed alliance with many parties in some states. Congress has formed major alliances in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.

Congress and NCP in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, Congress and NCP is going to lead a grand alliance with many others regional parties to take on BJP-Sena combination. Out of 48 seats, Congress will contest on 24 seats while NCP will contest on 20. Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) has been given 2 seats. Bahujan Vikas Aghadi will be fighting on 1 seats while Independent MLA Ravi Rana’s fro`nt will be contesting one seat.

Bihar’s grand alliance

In Bihar, Congress, RJD, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) and Vikasshil Insan Party (VIP) has formed a grand alliance to fight against the NDA alliance of BJP and JDU. Under the agreement, RJD will fight on 20 seats, Congress on 9 and RLSP on 5 seats. 3 seats each has been given to HAM and VIP.

Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, Congress has formed an alliance with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to fight on the 39 Lok Sabha seats of the state. The seats sharing deal has not been finalised till now. In Jharkhand too, Congress has gone for grand alliance like that of Bihar. Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVMP) have come up with a grand alliance to fight on 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
