Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan updating on the COVID-19 situation on Monday said that the lockdown strategy will change after June 16. Depending on the situation the restrictions will be imposed region-wise.
After reviewing the situation of regions, the local bodies will impose restrictions accordingly. Further details about the will be declared tomorrow (June 15), the CM added.
The Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala has announced stringent measures for June 12-13, in addition to the existing lockdown guidelines which are in place till June 16.
The additional measures, imposed over the weekend have barred takeaway parcels from restaurants, even though home delivery is permitted. Construction activities have been allowed following strict COVID-19 norms. Mobile and electronic repair shops were allowed to open on Friday.
Amid lockdown, Sunday prayers have been reduced to a few churches in Kottayam, while other churches remain closed. As public gatherings is not allowed in the wake of COVID-19 protocols, many churches remained closed. Almost five weeks into lockdown, Kerala seems to have entered the plateau phase again in Covid-19 cases.
Kerala reported 7,719 new covid cases on June 14, while 16,743 recoveries and 161 deaths were recorded. With this, there are 1,13,817 active cases in the state. A total of 26,10,368 patients have recovered and 11,342 have died.
Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest number of positive cases today at 1,170, followed by Ernakulam with 977 and Kollam 791.
"Of those found infected today, 36 reached the State from outside while 7,138 contracted the disease from their contact.The source of infection of 493 is yet to be traced and 52 health workers are also among the infected," a government statement said.
As many as 5,25,331 people are in quarantine, including 30,052 in hospitals, it said.
