Ranchi : In a shocking incident at a small village, some 40 kilometres away from here, five women were beaten to death by locals after the victims were alleged to be practicing witchcraft. The incident took place in broad daylight on Saturday, said state police sources.
Though till late on Saturday, hours since the shocking incident took place, no arrest has been made by the state police, around 20 locals most of whom are in their teens have been rounded up on suspicion. “We confirm that five women were beaten to death with sticks and rods by villagers, mostly youth in Mandar. The women were picked up from their houses by a mob on Friday night. The villagers alleged that they were involved in practicing black magic,” source said.
Villagers alleged four children died in the last six month due to prolonged illness.
On Friday, a large number of locals dragged the women from their houses and beaten them up mercilessly.
