New Delhi : The Enforcement Directorate has moved the special PMLA court seeking issuance of non-bailable warrant (NBW) against former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi. The fast paced developments against the tainted former IPL chief and the latest warrant have come as a shot in the arm for the BJP. The government plans to ‘show the mirror to the Congress’ if and when the controversial Lalitgate revelations come up for discussion in Parliament.

‘‘There is absolutely no question of any action against Sushma ji. We have already said that we believe she has done no wrong. Both the party and the government are standing firmly with her,’’ reiterated parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Top sources in the government indicated that the fast-track action against Lalit Modi would help it corner the Congress on a point-to-point basis. ‘‘While the Congress has not allowed the house to function and is trying to turn the whole issue into a huge scandal, the fact is they did not take one legal step to frame Lalit Modi for his misdoings. In fact, all efforts were made to help him escape the law,’’ claimed a top minister.

But sources said the BJP would not stop at that. The party has gathered ammunition on the Warren Anderson escape, the Quatrochchi case and other similar incidents to pose a counter to the Congress’ charges on Sushma.

BJP floor managers are confident that they are sufficiently armed to out the Congress leadership in the dock during a debate on the Lalitgate scandal. On Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, of course, the party would continue to resist any debate on the ground that matters of state interest must not be discussed in Parliament.
