New Delhi : Questioning the prime minister’s silence over the mysterious deaths of people related to the Vyapam scam, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded Narendra Modi’s “intervention” and a thorough probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, Describing the spate of deaths linked to the Vyapam scam as “cold-blooded murders”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said the Trinamool Congress would raise the issue during the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament and demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe.

Kejriwal, on his part, said something must be done to prevent the deaths and the guilty must be punished.

“People want Prime Minister to speak and intervene in Vyapam. PM should no more remain silent. Vyapam scam and all deaths so far ought to be thoroughly investigated. Guilty must be punished. Something MUST be done to prevent more deaths,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Journalist Akshay Singh, investigating the scam, and Arun Sharma, the Dean of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur, both died a mysterious death on Saturday and Sunday. Kejriwal also attended Singh’s funeral on Sunday.

In Kolkata, Banerjee said, “The Trinamool Congress will raise its voice against the Vyapam scam in Parliament. I strongly condemn the incident. It should be investigated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court.”

She added, “It is not merely a law and order issue. It is something bigger than that. So many killings have taken place. Many people are involved. It is cold-blooded murder.”

Asked if she would demand a CBI probe into the admission and recruitment scam, Banerjee said that since she knew the fate of CBI probes into the Netai massacre, Nandigram firing and Tagore’s Nobel medallion theft, she would prefer an investigation to be monitored by the apex court.

“The incident has crossed all limits. We want the truth to come out,” she said.
