New Delhi: The security forces are upset about the Kashmiri militants steering clear of the social media platforms after realising over 270 of their new recruits were eliminated in the last year within 10 to 15 days of picking up the gun.

According to Home Ministry sources earlier the new recruits used to upload their pics displaying weapons on the social media, which made it easier for the security forces to keep a tab on them. A realisation that they no longer use the social media came from light from the fact only three cases of the local Kashmiris jumping the fence came to notice in January that cannot be a correct picture.

“We are sure many more misguided youths must have joined the militancy but they cannot be traced as they are now being kept out of the scrutiny on the social media,” a ministry official said, adding survival rate of the new recruits is now not over six months due to poor training and continuous pressure of the security forces.

The official admitted over 210 locals joined the militancy in 2018 as compared to 128 in 2017 despite the high attrition rates, but their rate came down drastically in the last three months of 2018 that raised the suspicion that their recruiters have realised the security and intelligence agencies were using the social media to track them down as an easy way to find out the boys in the valley who go missing from their homes.
