New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah will be moving the resolution in Rajya Sabha on Monday to extend President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months from July 3. The resolution was passed by the Lok Sabha on Friday but it may face difficulty in the Rajya Sabha where the Opposition is still in a majority. Also listed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday is another Bill, as passed by the Lok Sabha on Friday, for amending the J&K Reservation Act 2004. CPI''s D Raja and two others have already moved a resolution to disapprove the related Ordinance promulgated on March 1.
The Opposition's stand is that such a Bill can be passed only by the J&K Assembly and hence it be deferred until the new Assembly is elected, alleging that the Ordinance was promulgated to get political advantage to the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. It envisages reservation to people living on the international border of Pakistan as par with those living on the Line of Control (LoC).
