Chennai: Slamming the ruling AIADMK over the handling of the recent deluge that affected Chennai and other districts, DMK president M Karunanidhi will lead a ‘massive’ protest here on January 5 next year.
Party Treasurer M K Stalin alleged “discrimination” in distributing flood relief, saying it was being given to beneficiaries identified by AIADMK men. “To insist that AIADMK, which is running this government, should take responsibility for the devastation and loss caused by rain and floods, Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) will lead a massive protest in Chennai on January 5, 2016,” he said reading out a resolution adopted by the party in a meeting of its senior leaders and MLAs here. It alleged that “administrative lapses” and “haphazard administration” by some officers of the government had resulted in large-scale damage, reports PTI. The party recalled that it had had petitioned the Governor K Rosaiah seeking a probe into alleged red-tapism in discharge of excess water from Chembarambakkam reservoir, but there was no action. Opposition parties, including the DMK have maintained that the state government had not handled the torrential rains and subsequent floods, besides discharge of excess water from a city reservoir, properly, alleging these had resulted in widespread flooding, especially in this metropolis.
