In a case of supected honor killing in Karnataka, bodies of a 19-year-old and 16-year-old were found in Saladahalli area of Vijayapura district. The two of them were killed by family members, who are now absconding.

According to a report, the two were found dead with their heads smashed by a rock. The girl’s family members, including her father, brothers and two other relatives, are absconding. The bodies lay near each other and the blood-stained stones used to kill them were also found nearby.

Villagers told the police that the young boy and girl from families following different faiths were in love but their families were opposed to their relationship.

The girl belonged to a minority community and both families objected to their relationship. Police have said, prima facie it looks like a case of honour killing as villagers pointed out that the families were not pleased with the match.

A case has been registered at Kalkeri Police Station.

A similar honour killing case was reported in Madhya Pradesh on March 22, where the police arrested family members, including parents, brother, paternal aunt and uncle for killing a minor.

During investigation it was revealed that the killed minor girl was in love with a man from other community. Her family members were not happy with this. The accused family members killed the girl and dumped her body in a well to pass it off as suicide.

On March 16 late in the evening there was dispute between the girl and her family members over the issue. Around 8.30 pm, when the girl tried to flee, the accused dragged her inside the house and strangulated her with a scarf. Later in the midnight, they dumped her body in the well and on the next day lodged her missing complaint to mislead police and other villagers.
