Former Congress CM Kamal Nath is under-fire for his remarks on BJP leader Imarti Devi. Addressing a poll meeting on Sunday in Gwalior's Dabra town, where the Congress is up against Imarti Devi, who switched over to the BJP, Nath said his party candidate was a "simple person" unlike his opponent who is an "item".
Taking a dim view of the remark, Chouhan in a tweet in Hindi said, "With your cheap statement, Congress' crooked and despicable mentality has come to the fore again. You have not just disrespected Smt Imarti Devi, but each and every girl and sister of Gwalior-Chambal region."
Scindia, who switched to BJP from Congress, also took a dim view of the incident and said: “This is Congress's principle. First, Digvijay Singh had said something about Congress leader Meenakshi Natrajan which I don't remember, now Kamal Nath called BJP's Imarti Devi an 'item' while Ajay Singh called her 'Jalebi'. Congress never respects women.”
A few years ago, a former CM did raise heckles when he referred to Congress MP Meenakshi Natarajan as a ‘tunch maal’.
While his detractors labelled him misogynist, the word ‘tunch’ can also be used to describe a commodity which is ‘pure and solid’.
He had said: “She believes in Gandhian philosophy, is simple, honest. She meets everybody and visits villages. Politicians have the ability to know who is fake and who is genuine after brief interactions. I am an old jeweller, she is 100% pure item).”
Natrajan hadn’t taken objection to the statement and had said: “He said something about me genuinely and in a perspective. Ise sahi sandarbhon me dekha jaana chaahiye (It should be seen in the right context). Those whose mindset is negative would see only wrong in it. There is nothing objectionable in his statement.”
