NEW DELHI: Over 400 journalists of the capital on Monday held a protest march at the Press Club of India here against the Uttar Pradesh police arresting local scribe Prashant Kanojia and two top executives of a TV news channel that telecast his video on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the journalist fraternity of young and old demanded withdrawal of the cases against them and sought their immediate release from jail.
Police has charged Kanojia for circulating on social media a video defamatory to Yogi Adityanath. He has worked with several TV channels and news portals.
The vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and Ajay Rastogi took on record a habeas corpus petition of Kanojia’s wife and agreed to hear it on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Noida office premises of private television news channel Nation Live has been sealed and the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration reported the matter to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, officials said Monday.
The Bench agreed for hearing on senior counsel Nitya Ramakrishnan mentioned the matter for an urgent hearing.
