Unemployed Kanhaiya Kumar has an annual income of Rs 8.5 lakh for the last two years, now. His total cash in hand, the poll affidavit says, is a measly Rs. 24,000 and investments and savings amount to Rs. 3,57,848. With these, he hopes to take on Union Minister Giriraj Singh, one of the more affluent candidates, in his hometown Begusarai.
If it brings any cheer, Kanhaiya Kumar also has an immovable asset – his ancestral property — a house which stands on 1.5 decimal land and is valued at Rs. 2 lakh.
His father is a farmer and mother an anganwadi worker. Still, Kanhaiya is not the poorest candidate. Nalla Prem Kumar, who is contesting on JDU ticket from Telangana’s Chevella Lok Sabha constituency, has declared assets worth Rs. 500.
