Congress leader Jitin Prasada, who joined the BJP on Wednesday, was upset with the party leadership on denial of the Uttar Pradesh Congress President's post he had been egging since 2019.

He had made up his mind to join the BJP in 2019, but AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is in-charge of UP, persuaded him to wait as his friend Rahul Gandhi would certainly find some slot for him. After he signed a letter of 23 dissident leaders last September, Rahul made him AICC in-charge of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar, which he termed as a lollipop and not a substantive position.

He was upset that the Congress leadership ignored him even after he joined the dissident group and shunted him off to West Bengal instead of letting him do political work in Uttar Pradesh and nurse his home borough Shahjahanpur constituency, which used to elect his late father. He was born in Shahjahanpur in 1973.

He was equally upset that even Priyanka did not consult him despite his wide knowledge of Uttar Pradesh politics.

Jitin had stopped talking to his friends in the Congress as also in the media since after the West Bengal Assembly elections last month, telling them that he finds no use in convincing them that Prime Minister Modi should be fully backed at this time in the fight against the Coronavirus when they are all busy finding faults in him.

He also told his friends that he wants to secure his position for a seat in the Lok Sabha that only the BJP can guarantee him.

He, however, indicated on Wednesday after joining the Congress that he may even get an important position in Uttar Pradesh and he is confident of Home Minister Amit Shah keeping his word in this regard.
