Jharkhand Assembly Poll Updates: 44.65% of votes cast till 1 pm, voting ends in 5 seats

Polling for the fourth phase Jharkhand Assembly election began in 15 constituencies on Monday. It will conclude at 3 pm at Jamua, Bagodar, Giridih, Dumri and Tundi, while for the rest of the seats, the voting will continue till 5 pm. The seats going to polls are Deoghar, Jamua, Chandankiyari, Madhupur, Bagodar, Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Bokaro, Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi and Baghmara.

44.65% of votes cast till 1 pm

An estimated 44.65% per cent of over 47 lakh electorate cast their votes till 1 pm Monday in the fourth phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections in 15 constituencies, Election Commission (EC) officials said.

Polling, which began at 7 am, is going on peacefully in the constituencies spread over Giridih, Deoghar, Dhanbad and Bokaro districts, they said.

Voting ended at 3 pm at Jamua, Bagodar, Giridih, Dumri and Tundi while the exercise will continue till 5 pm in the remaining seats, they said.

Addressing a poll meeting here, he said it was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led BJP government that created Jharkhand, and the Narendra Modi dispensation worked for its development after burying Naxalism 20 feet under the earth.

Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah, who is also the Union home minister, said he should give an account of the development work carried out by his party.

The senior BJP leader asserted that Sahebganj in Jharkhand was once a trade corridor for countries in Asia and Europe, but "the Congress, during its rule in the state, ruined all business avenues".

75-year-old man dies while standing in queue to vote

An elderly man died of suspected heart attack while standing in a queue to cast his vote in Dumri assembly constituency in Bokaro district on Monday, an official said.

Chandrapura Block Development Officer S Murmu said 75 -year-old Barhan Mahato was standing in the queue before booth number 362 at Khalcho village in the constituency when he suddenly collapsed and died.

He had come to the booth alone to cast his vote.
