Jammu and Kashmir: 2 militants killed in encounter at Awantipora

On Monday, an encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Wandakpora area of South Kashmir's Awantipora.

Two terrorists have been killed in the encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Wandakpora area of Awantipora. A search operation is underway.

According to officials, a notorious Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist had been trapped in the ongoing encounter. Police and security forces are on the job.

"Notorious terrorist of JeM terror outfit namely Kaiser Koka, active since 2018, trapped in Awantipora encounter," the Kashmir ADGP confirmed. The police later confirmed that both Koka and his associate, whose identity is being verified, were killed.

There has been an uptick of violence this year in the restive Kashmir Valley. As of July 7, a total of 169 people have been killed due to the militancy, of whom 20 were civilians, 19 were security personnel and 130 were militants.
