New Delhi : The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday said that the ongoing discussion in the Parliament on rising intolerance in the country was hurting the nation, adding that India is the most tolerant nation in the world.

“The more the matter of intolerance is being debated, the more it is hurting (the nation). India is the most intolerant nation in the world. Blowing certain issues out of proportion is not right,” SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav told ANI.

The Rajya Sabha will resume discussion on ‘Commitment to Constitution’ while the Lok Sabha will discuss the issues related to intolerance in the country today during the Winter Session of the Parliament.

Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu had appealed for a mature debate and discussions to the members of the Parliament.

The rising intolerance has become a contentious issue in the recent times with several prominent writers, poets, actors and filmmakers returning their national awards as a protest. Bollywood actors, such as Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan had even drawn flak for expressing their concern over the rising intolerance.
