Chennai: In an unusual “recommendation”, the Madras High Court on Thursday asked the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary to install CCTV cameras inside the chambers of all bureaucrats to prevent allegations of sexual harassment by women employees.

Not stopping with the order, Justice S M Subramaniam surprised everyone by asking the High Court Registry to first install a CCTV camera inside his judicial chamber within two weeks as he did not want to be seen as someone merely preaching and not practicing.

Justice Subramaniam came up the ”solution” – that had a section of the bureaucracy and police complaining about compromising on their own privacy and official work – while passing orders on a petition filed by a woman Superintendent of Police seeking a probe against an Inspector General of Police on charges of sexually harassing her.
