New Delhi : Rising 19 places over its previous ranking, India has been ranked 35 among 160 countries in World Bank’s recently-released Logistics Performance Index (LPI) for 2016, the government said on Wednesday.

The Logistics Performance Index Report is published by World Bank every two years. The latest report is titled “Connecting to Complete 2016”.

“An improvement in India’s rank in Logistics Performance Index adequately establishes steady performance in our competitiveness in manufacturing and trade that also acts as one of the growth driver of Make in India Programme,” a finance ministry release here said.

LPI is an interactive benchmarking tool created to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance on trade logistics and what they can do to improve their performance.

In terms of Customs, India ranked 38, in Infrastructure 36, for International Shipments at 39, Logistics Quality and Competence 32, Tracking and Tracing 33, and Timeliness 42. The LPI is based on a worldwide survey of stakeholders providing feedback on the logistics ‘friendliness’ of the countries in which they operate and those with which they trade.

These feedbacks combine in-depth knowledge of the countries in which the stakeholders operate with informed qualitative assessments of other countries where they trade and have experience of global logistics environment.                   —IANS
