Chennai : The Madras High Court on Monday directed the police to arrest a middle-aged man, who had produced fabricated records to claim that he was born to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and late Telugu film actor Shoban Babu but was given in adoption to a couple from Erode district in 1995.

The man, J Krishnamoorthy, had moved the court seeking police protection alleging that he faced threat from Jayalalithaa’s long-time aide and jailed AIADMK (Amma faction) leader VK Sasikala.

Justice R Mahadevan directed the police to “secure the petitioner and take action against him in accordance with law” after the Crime Branch informed the court that documents produced by Krishnamoorthy in support of his claim were examined and found to be fabricated.

Krishnamoorthy had knocked the doors of the court claiming that he was born to the former actress and Shoban Babu on February 15, 1985 in Bengaluru [The two actors were known to be close friends till the early eighties].

Later the two separated and he was given in adoption to a couple. He claimed that the late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran (MGR), who was Jayalalithaa’s lead star in 28 films and political mentor, had signed as witness in the adoption deed.

On March 17, the judge had ordered him to submit all documents to the Chennai Police and directed the latter to examine its genuineness. When the Crime Branch informed the court that the documents were forged, Justice Mahadevan ordered the police to arrest Krishnamoorthy holding that the latter cannot be allowed to play with the court.
