NEW DELHI: The Govt on Tuesday appointed Dr Arvind Gupta, a 1979 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the new deputy National security adviser (NSA) and the secretary of the National Security Council Secretariat for three years. He is currently the Director General in the government’s thinktank Institute of Defence Studies & Analyses (IDSA). Dr Gupta replaces Nehchal Sandhu, an IPS officer who had become the deputy NSA in March last year and who put in his papers on July 31.
