New Delhi : The Congress has dug into reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General to find fault with PM Narendra Modi’s track record on the total sanitation campaign during his days as the Gujarat CM to charge that he does not have the credentials for the ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’.
Describing him as a dream merchant, Congress spokesperson and Gujarat leader Shaktisinh Gohil charged that Modi does make tall claims, but then the implementation on the ground falls far short of the projections. “The CAG report exposes that 5,000 anganwadis in Gujarat are without toilets. It says that 57 schools are without teachers, and that schools also do not have toilets. There should be a provision for separate toilets for girls in schools, but that has also not been done in many schools as per the CAG report,”,” he said at press briefing at the party headquarters.
Gohil said that Modi has been touting the Gujarat model to seek media mileage for his Swachh Bharat abhiyan but the fact is that in 12 years that he ruled the state the Gujarat chief minister could not make much an impact on the ground situation. Besides, this the BJP has a strange attitude towards the reports of the CAG, he said.
He pointed out that when CAG reports used to say something bad about the UPA, the BJP used to say that facts given by the independent constitutional agency can’t be challenged, but now they are not ready to accept CAG report.
Gohil said that even in the context of the Adarsh Gram Yojana in Gujarat it has been accepted by the CM Anandibehn Patel that the members of parliament from the BJP have adopted villages that are already developed. ”On the contrary, the Congress MPs have adopted really backward villages,” he added.
