New Delhi : Citizens of Mumbai and 13 states, including Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra, need not run around any longer for the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances for any construction along the seaside as Environment and Forest Minister Anil Madhav Dave on Wednesday launched a web portal for grant of such clearances.

He told reporters that the new portal will help in the Modi Government”s policy of “Ease of doing business” as one can easily track the status of the proposals submitted to various authorities for the clearance. The new portal will, in fact, provide facility to apply for both CRZ and environment clearances.

There are other initiatives underway, like the notification of High Tide Line/Low Tide Line (HTL/LTL), ecologically sensitive areas falling under CRZ-1, hazard line etc.  All these steps are aimed at minimising discretions and enhancing accountability at all levels, the minister said.

The ministry brought all construction and mining activities in the coastal areas under control through a CRZ notification in 1991 which was revised in 2011.
