1. FM announces stimulus package for economic revival, raises ECLGS scheme limit to Rs 4.5 lakh cr

To help revival of the economy battered by COVID-19, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced a slew of measures, including Rs 1.1 lakh crore credit guarantee scheme for improving health infrastructure, and enhancing the limit under the ECLGS by 50 per cent to Rs 4.5 lakh crore for the MSME sector facing liquidity crunch. Sharing the details of stimulus package, the finance minister said this comprises eight relief measures. The existing limit for ECLGS scheme, announced as part of Rs 20-lakh crore Atmanirbhar Bharat Abiyan package in May 2020, was Rs 3 lakh crore.

2. Hope to resolve issues faced by Indians vaccinated with Covishield travelling to EU soon: Adar Poonawalla

Vaccine major Serum Institute of India chief executive officer Adar Poonawalla today said he has taken up the issues faced by Indians who have taken the Covishield jab travelling to the European Union at highest levels and hoped to resolve them soon. Covishield is the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in India by the Pune-based vaccine maker. "I realise that a lot of Indians who have taken Covishield are facing issues with travel to the EU, I assure everyone, I have taken this up at the highest levels and hope to resolve this matter soon, both with regulators and at a diplomatic level with countries," Poonawalla said in a tweet.

3. Delhi oxygen row: BJP stages dharna at Jantar Mantar seeking CM Kejriwal's resignation

Delhi BJP leaders sat on a dharna at the Jantar Mantar today, demanding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation over his government "inflating" the city's oxygen need during the second wave of coronavirus. Leading the protest along with MPs, MLAs and office bearers of the party, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta also said Kejriwal should be "arrested for criminal negligence". "The interim report of a Supreme Court committee has said that the Kejriwal government raised a four-time higher demand of oxygen than actual consumption that caused shortage in other states and led to deaths of Covid patients. Kejriwal himself is responsible for this and should step down from his post," Gupta said.

4. Good news for Mumbaikars! CM Uddhav Thackeray inaugurates 2nd arm of newly built Sealink-BKC flyover

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray officially inaugurated the new flyover today afternoon, built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Now, commuters travelling from the Sea Link to BKC will not have to wait for long time at the Kalanagar Junction's signal anymore, as the two-lane flyover will provide them with a seamless travel experience. The MMRDA, the special planning authority of the BKC, had proposed three flyovers in an effort to relieve the Kalanagar signal snarl. The first, with two lanes, allowing commuters travelling from BKC Junction towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link is already operational, the second two-lane flyover from the Sea Link towards BKC will be accessible from today.

5. Sensex drops 189 points; Nifty slips below 15,850

Equity benchmark Sensex tumbled 189 points today led by losses in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, TCS and HDFC amid a negative trend in global markets. After touching a lifetime high of 53,126.73 in opening session, the 30-share BSE index ended 189.45 points or 0.36 per cent lower at 52,735.59. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty settled 45.65 points or 0.29 per cent down at 15,814.70. It touched a lifetime intra-day peak of 15,915.65.
