Patiala: Four Punjab Police personnel have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a CBI Court in Patiala for their role in an eighteen-year-old fake encounter case which led to the death of a youth.

CBI court judge Justice Kawaljeet Singh read out the verdict before the media on Monday.

He said that in 1996, the UP and Punjab Police jointly picked up 22-year-old Harjeet Singh of Ludhiana and killed him in a fake encounter.

Police alleged that the youth was a terrorist.

A case was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by Harjeet’s father, which was later shifted to the CBI court.
