Burdwan blast accused held
Kolkata: The NIA on Saturday arrested Abdul Wahab Momin, one of the absconding accused in the Burdwan blast, here in the West Bengal capital, an official said. “Wahab, a resident of Samsherganj in Murshidabad district, was today arrested from Sealdah. He is an accused in the Burdwan blast and was absconding,” an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told.
Leopard mauls four, killed in Bengal
Siliguri: An adult female leopard was beaten to death in West Bengal’s Siliguri on Saturday after it strayed into a tea estate and injured four people, forests officials said. Additional Divisional Forest Officer (Kurseong) Angela Bhutia said a post mortem has been conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death although it appeared that the leopard was beaten to death.
Cricket betting syndicate busted
New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted an alleged betting syndicate operating during the ongoing Cricket world Cup with the arrest of a 57-year-old man who had set up a control room with 110 mobile phones at his home and was relaying ball-by-ball betting rates to bookies. The accused, identified as Shanti Swaroop Bhatia, a resident of Paschim Vihar, was arrested by a team of Crime Branch following a tip off.
Holiday on Ambedkar Jayanti
NEW DELHI: The Government on Saturday declared April 14 as a closed holiday on account of the birthday of Constitution maker Dr B R Ambedkar for all central government offices, including the industrial establishments, throughout India. A notification by the Department of Personnel and Training said the holiday will also apply to the banks under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
