Accused Shot Dead By Youth In Court   

Muzaffarnagar:  In a sensational attack, an accused in a 2011 murder case was on Monday shot dead by an absconding youth inside a courtroom here while hearing in the case was going on. The deceased, identified as Vicky Tyagi, an alleged gangster, was shot multiple times by the shooter, who had entered the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s courtroom masquerading as a lawyer, Inspector General of Police (Meerut Zone) Alok Sharma said.                 According to the police, the shooter had escaped from a juvenile home last year. He had shot dead an eye-witness in another court here few years ago, and was lodged in the facility after being declared a juvenile in that case, they said.

Gurgaon Mulling ‘Women Only Cabs’   

Gurgaon: With the aim to curb incidents of eve-teasing and crime against women, the Gurgaon district administration is planning to run ‘women only’ cabs in the industrial city that will be driven by women drivers. The administration will help interested women to buy and run such cabs. The Gurgaon district administration has asked the RUDSET (Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute) to identify such women or girls who are willing to run such cabs.

Centre Releases Rs 196 Crore For JK       

Jammu: The Union Finance Ministry has released an amount of Rs 196 crore for Jammu and Kashmir as part of the second installment of the state’s share in central taxes and duties. “After vigorous pursuit with the Union Finance Ministry, the Centre has released Rs 196 crore to Jammu and Kashmir, which is the second installment of its share in central taxes and duties. This is expected to further ease the extremely strained liquidity position of the state government,” a Raj Bhawan spokesman said. The spokesman said the state finance department has also received Rs 170 crore under special plan assistance (SPA).

Walmart To Open 15 Stores In Andhra

Hyderabad:  Walmart India plans to open 15 cash-and-carry stores in Andhra Pradesh in next five years. This was conveyed by Walmart India president and CEO during a meeting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday. This followed the chief minister’s meeting with David Cheesewright, president and CEO of Walmart International, at the World Economic Forum in Davos recently.

Kidney Trade Busted; Doctor Arrested  

Hyderabad: With the arrest of four persons including a doctor, Hyderabad police on Monday claimed to have busted a racket of kidney transplants for Indian patients at hospitals in Sri Lanka or Iran. The officers of Commissioner’s Task Force (West Zone) today arrested Dr Hirdesh Saxena alias Kumar (60), a resident of Shirdi in Maharashtra, and city-residents K Raghavender, a businessman; A Ashok, a student; and Sanjay Kumar Jain, a passport agent. Additional police commissioner Anjani Kumar said Dr Saxena was the kingpin of the racket. The recipients of transplant had to shell out Rs 30 lakh, while Saxena made a profit of Rs 8 lakh per transplant, he added.

Cross-Border Trade Resumes At Loc       

Islamabad: The stalled cross-border travel and trade between India and Pakistan through the Chakothi-Uri crossing on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir resumed today after being suspended over a week ago. Traffic through the crossing was suspended on February 7 after Indian security officials in Uri reportedly recovered nearly 200 packets of suspected contraband from an orange-laden truck coming from Pakistan.
