5 kids die in Tirupati hospital
Tirupati: Five children, including three infants, died in a government hospital here on a single day due to different ailments, triggering protests by their parents who accused the authorities of negligence in treatment. Three newborn babies and two children, aged about four years, died yesterday after being admitted to the SVRR Government Hospital in the past few days

, hospital officials said. The parents and relatives of the deceased staged a brief protest yesterday blaming alleged negligence of the staff and inadequate facilities in the hospital for the deaths.
Firing: India lodges protest with Pak
Jammu: India on Thursday lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. ” We have lodged a strong protest over the firing on Indian forward post and ceasefire violation in Krishnagati belt of Poonch sector with Pakistan counterparts through hotline today,” a senior army officer said.
Shinde given Z- Plus security
New Delhi: With the change of guard in Home Ministry, the security of Union Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has been completely revamped with inclusion of escort, pilot and bullet- proof cars and an enhanced posse of security personnel. As compared to his predecessor P Chidambaram, who only had a personal security officer, Shinde is being guarded by a posse of armed personnel and travels in a bullet- proof Ambassador car. Shinde is also accompanied by safari suit clad Delhi Police personnel, two additional Ambassador cars and pilot and escort cars. Considering high threat perception, Home Minister is always given ZPlus security.
Ansari becomes UGC member
New Delhi: Prof M M Ansari, economist and one of the interlocutors for J& K, has been appointed a member of the University Grants Commission ( UGC) for three years. He is among the bureaucrats who kept getting one after another assignments even after the retirement. He was in the government’s statistical organisation and then went on to become a professor in Jamia Hamdard here.
