BMC nod to cloud seeding for rain
MUMBAI: Worried over the deficient rains this year, Mumbais civic body has decided to resort to ‘artificial rains’at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore, an official said here on Thursday. Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sitaram Kunte announced the decision even as the citys water collection and storage remained around 30 percent deficient, with the peak monsoon drawing to a close by month- end.’Cloudseeding will be carried out for 12- 15 days mainly in the catchment areas of the Bhatsa and Vaitarna rivers in Thane district,’Kunte said.
Maruti Manesar unit to restart production
MANESAR: Maruti Suzuki said on Thursday that it would restart production at its Manesar factory on August 21. It has sacked 500 workers involved in a deadly riot that shut the plant. The 550,000 vehicles- a- year factory has been idle since the July 18 clash between workers and management.
The company will start producing 150 cars a day from Tuesday, less than 10 per cent of its average daily production. The resumption comes just in time for festival season, when people tend to make big- ticket purchases.
NBW issued for ex- minister Kanda
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday issued a nonbailable warrant against former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda and sent his aide Aruna Chadha to judicial custody for 14 days, setting August 24 as the next date of hearing.
The former minister, who is an accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, has been absconding for 10 days.
