Kolkata: So, this can happen to anyone, whatever one’s station in life. Sample this: Former Miss India Universe 2010 Ushoshi Sengupta took an Uber from a five-star hotel in Kolkata on Monday night, unaware of the harrowing experience that lay ahead for her and her colleague. It involved a face-off with a group of boys who rammed into her cab and harassed her, just because she had a little while earlier dared to take a video of them beating up her cab driver. She later took to Facebook and posted a video of the group of boys harassing her and her driver, and a photo of the smashed front windshield of her cab.
It is understood from her account that when the boys realised Ushoshi had recorded a video, they chased her, dragged her out of the car and forced her to delete the video. Most worrisome was the sluggish response of the police. Despite all her efforts to reach out to the police, none of the cops provided any immediate help, on the pretext of jurisdiction issues. She was only made to run from one police station to another.
