New Delhi: The Election Commission first uploaded "final" data of the Lok Sabha elections, called them "provisional" after mismatches reported in votes polled and counted in a large number of constituencies and then deleted them. Now it has put up a fresh set of data by simply matching the number of votes polled with the numbers coming in the counting. The opposition candidates who are unable to stomach the defeat despite large response in the poll campaign have already piled up cases after cases on how the BJP and allies surprised them with victgories. Here are some examples:

• Machhlishahr Constituency (Uttar Pradesh). No. of votes polled: 10.27 lakhs. No. of votes counted: 10.32 lakhs. BJP declared winner by 181 votes.

• The website of the EC showed that a total of 60.736 crores voters exercised their franchise across the country, but the number of votes counted were 61.319 crores.

• In Jehanabad constituency (Bihar), the no. of votes cast were 8.22 lakhs. The opposition cited EC data to allege that 23,079 votes were not counted and JD(U) candidate Chandreshwar Prasad won by 1,751 votes.

• The ECI uploaded voter turnout data for J&K in Phase four. However, J&K didn''t have elections at all in phase 4.

• Katihar is said to have 44.47% Muslim population. But Tariq Anwar, who had won the seat even in 2014 despite the fractured opposition then, lost the seat this time even after polling 44.93% of the votes. In Araria, a seat which RJD had won even in 2014 and again in a by-election of 2018, BJP won after polling 52.87% votes.

• In Arrah Lok Sabha constituency, these BJP supporters acknowledged that nobody had ever polled four lakh votes in the last 70 years. This time Raju Yadav of CPI(ML) polled 4.19 lakh votes and yet he lost to BJP''s RK Singh who polled 5.70 lakh votes.

• Jat leader and RLD chief Ajit Singh lost the election from Muzaffarnagar despite Dalits and Muslims constituting 55% of the voters. He managed to poll only 48% while BJP did one better with 50%.
