New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday transferred Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma. Rajesh Kumar, ADG, Pollution Control Board, will take over from him. Several other police officers too have been shifted. They have also been disallowed from taking part in election duty.
Both the Kolkata and the Bidhan Nagar police commissioner — who too has been shifted — were said to be close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Anuj Sharma was seen sitting next to Mamata Banerjee during her dharna against the Central Bureau of Investigation.
CHIEF SECY SHUNTED OUT: In another development, the EC has shunted out Anil Chandra Punetha as Andhra Pradesh chief secretary. Chandrababu Naidu has slammed the poll body as “biased” and sought a reason for his transfer. Condemning the move, the CM dared the authorities to “arrest him tomorrow or day after”. “I am condemning all the centre’s conspiracies against AP. I will see what you do,” he said, reports News 18.
YOGI CENSURED: Meanwhile, the EC has merely advised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to be more careful in the future, after he referred to the Indian Army as “Modiji ki sena” (the army of Prime Minister Narendra Modi).
The poll panel’s warning came two days after it issued notice to him. “Being a senior leader, he should be extremely careful. The commission is not satisfied with the explanation and advises Yogi Adityanath to be cautious while making statements at public rallies,” EC said in a statement.
