New Delhi: The Election Commission has disposed of the complaint against PM Modi over his ‘Bhrashtachari No1′ remark about Rajiv Gandhi, saying that, prima facie, it did not “figure out any literal violation of the model code of conduct”. The clean chit came hours after Congress MP Sushmita Dev filed a complaint in the Supreme Court against Modi’s remark and the poll panel for its “arbitrary and opaque” clean chits to him. She had also said that the speeches made by the PM and Amit Shah should be declared “corrupt practices”
under Section 123A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The ‘Bhrashtachari No1′ remark had drawn severe criticism from the Congress party. The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, which had filed the complaint in the EC, said that the statement by PM Modi was not only a violation of the Model Code but also an insult of a Bharat Ratna awardee and a martyr.
