Kolkata Durga Puja pandals always remain in headlines for their uniqueness as every year there is something special and innovative they offer for the devotees. This year too, Sreebhumi Sporting club in Kolkata has decorated their puja pandal in one of the most unique ways. We all must have watched SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali’. The palace of Baahubali’s Mahishmati has been recreated by the Sreebhumi Sporting club puja committee through their pandal.

‘Baahubali’ has a great fan following not just in South India, but in other parts of the country too. After the record-smashing performance of the sequel, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, it was natural that Kolkata pandal would adopt it. And if you wonder how it would feel to walk in the magnificent Mashishmati palace, here’s a chance for you. With their signature jhaarbati (lampshade), and heavy gold jewellery, it looks as regal as the film set.

A 100-foot-high marquee – replica of the set of Mahishmati has been designed to stun the pandal hoppers in Kolkata. The Sreebhumi Sporting club Durga Puja pandal has a huge gate where elephants stand atop pedestals with its trunk raised. The pandal hoppers/visitors/devotees will make their way through the feet of the elephant. The massive Durga Puja pandal is entirely made up of plywood and fibre.  There will be eight more Baahubali-themed light pillars that will guide visitors to the puja pandal. There are also life-size figures made to give the majestic feel of the Baahubali palace. It is expected that this year Sreebhumi Sporting club in Kolkata will be able to fetch a lot of eyeballs.

To note, there are many reports saying that the pandal cost Rs 10 crore to be built, making it the most expensive Durga Puja in Kolkata this year, though the organisers have given no such official figure. Nevertheless, the video showing the splendour of the pandal and Mahishmathi cannot be ignored and makes for an impressive viewing. It has been uploaded by various people online and on multiple platforms.

Meanwhile, the Goddess Durga in the pandal is wearing gold jewellery too, like the same way Baahubali movie portrayed it. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the pandal by chanting Durga mantra.
