The Director of a Delhi Public School branch, Devendra Prasad, died on Sunday after being thrashed by a mob, following the recovery of bodies of two students from a ditch in Bihar’s Nalanda district.
Prasad succumbed to his injuries at the Patna Medical College and Hospital, Nalanda’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Sidharth Mohan Jain told PTI.
TV footage showed that the Director was mercilessly beaten up with lathis by a mob which held him responsible for the death of the two students of the prestigious residential school.
As the crowd rained blows on him, some of the onlookers kicked him as he lay on the ground. The badly battered DPS official was taken by a police team to hospital.
Earlier in the day, the bodies of two students, aged 7-8 years, of the prestigious public school were recovered from a water body.
Blaming the slain DPS official for the death of the two local students, identified as Ravi Kumar and Sagar Kumar, the villagers attacked the school and torched some rooms and vehicles. The mob also targeted some policemen who had arrived there to probe the death of the two students.
Initially, the mob did not let the cops take custody of the bodies; nor did it allow them to come to the rescue of the injured DPS official. Later, the police took the bodies for post-mortem examination, besides rushing Prasad to hospital, the SP said.
