Our Correspondent, Chennai: In a surprise action, the DMK leadership reeling under the Lok Sabha poll rout, on Saturday summarily suspended 33 functionaries including three top leaders holding them responsible for the election debacle in certain constituencies.
Those suspended include former Union Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam, former State Information Minister Mullaivendan and Rajya Sabha MP K P Ramalingam. The rest are local functionaries. DMK general secretary announced the mass suspensions through a media statement and said the 33 functionaries had been served with show cause notices to which they need to respond in a week failing which they would be expelled from the party. The action stunned many political observers.
