Jitin Prasad’s analysis may be a shot in the arm for BJP, which has been facing ire of Brahmins ever since it chose Yogi Adityanath as the chief minister of the state. The Brahmin leaders within the Saffron fold and outside have been accusing the UP government of ignoring them and showering all favours to Thakurs.

Jitin a well-known Brahmin face in UP has been raising the voice of this community for quite some time now. He was leading a Brahmin outfit and was mobilizing his community on various issues for the last two years. Once a blue-eyed boy of the Gandhi family, Jitin was entrusted with the job of mobilising Brahmins against the BJP government.

According to state Congress leaders, Jitin Prasad had accused his own party leaders of not supporting his moves and ignoring Brahmin leaders. On Wednesday, while making an announcement to join BJP, Jitin said he was not able to do anything for his own people in the previous party.

With Jitin being on its side, BJP would now be able to appease this community. Chief Minister Yogi soon after Jitin joined the party, welcomed his move and said it would help BJP in the state.

In the coming days, the BJP in UP is likely to accommodate Jitin on a prominent position in the organization or the government and assign him the task to manage Brahmin voters. A senior BJP leader said that Jitin could be nominated in the legislative council by July. BJP in UP, may get four of its leaders accommodated in the state legislative council in July, when four members belonging to Samajwadi Party will complete their tenure.

It may be mentioned that the issue of unrest among Brahmin with BJP was also discussed in the recently held meetings of party top leaders and RSS functionaries over UP. During the meeting with BJP central leaders, several UP BJP ministers had apprised them about the anger in the Brahmin community. In the feedback taken about the UP government from state ministers and leaders, it was said that Brahmin unrest should be addressed before the coming assembly polls.
