New Delhi: To control inflation, Delhi’s Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung flagged off  several low cost vegetable vans here on Monday morning.

Lt. Gov. Jung said, “We have been trying to arrange it for the last three to four months so that there is a control over the prices. In fact, the off-take has already reduced to a great extent.”

“This involves the farmers directly. The objective is to control the prices. These vans sell various items like onions, potatoes and other items across the city. Tomatoes are not being included in this because it has short shelf life”, he added.

Talking of the number of vans, he said, “The off take is very low at the moment. If it increases, then we plan to increase the number of vans to fifty.”

Last month, Jung convened a meeting of senior officials to review the prices of essential items like onions and potatoes.
