Delhi: Rouse Avenue court in Delhi dismissed an interim bail application of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Monday. The BRS leader had sought interim bail on the grounds of the school examinations of her minor son. She is in judicial custody after the ED remand in the excise policy case.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja dismissed Kavitha's plea for interim bail, deeming the timing inappropriate for her release. Kavitha had sought bail citing her 16-year-old son's upcoming exams and his need for her 'moral and emotional support.'

ED Alleges Tampering With Evidence

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Kavitha's plea, alleging that she tampered with evidence and influenced witnesses in the case. According to the agency, Kavitha is a crucial figure in the 'South Group,' accused of providing kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to the ruling AAP in Delhi in exchange for a major portion of liquor licenses in the national capital.

Kavitha, aged 46, was arrested from her residence in Banjara Hills on March 15 amidst protests by supporters of BRS. Later, she was remanded to seven-day ED custody, extended by three days further. On March 26, she wassent to 14-day judicial custody.

'K Kavitha Not Cooperating With Probe,' Says ED

The ED further informed the court about Kavitha's repeated failure to comply with summons and alleged that she withheld crucial information and is not cooperating during the investigation.

Following her arrest in Hyderabad amid a tense confrontation involving her brother KT Rama Rao and ED officials, Kavitha's appeal to the Supreme Court was also dismissed.

The court emphasised equal treatment under the law. Interestingly, the bench was set to hear a similar plea by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who withdrew his plea after Kavitha's was rejected and is now in ED custody.
