Defer West Bengal bypolls: BJP to EC

Kolkata

A day after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said the situation is better for holding bypolls and civic polls, BJP urged the EC to put on hold the bypolls till the pandemic is completely over.

Addressing a press conference, BJP West Bengal general secretary Sayantan Basu said amid the pandemic, if bypolls and civic polls are held, then it might increase the positivity rate.

“Mamata claimed earlier due to the 8-phase polling, Covid cases had increased. Now, even if the rate is low, holding polls might be detrimental. We urge EC to keep polls on hold,” said Sayantan.

State BJP vice-president Jai Prakash Majumdar said, “If elections are held, then Mamata will lose her CM post and someone else from her party will become the CM. This is why, the TMC chief is wants the polls.”

Comparing the present situation in West Bengal with ‘The Emergency,’ the BJP observed a ‘Black Day’.
